None of these gold coins were ever struck again for this monarch. It was the outbreak of the First World War that led Britain to replace gold coins in circulation with banknotes. However, in 1937, the coronation of King George VI was a perfect opportunity for a one-off striking of Britains four gold denominations. These gold coins were never intended for circulation and this double sovereign had a limited minting of 5,001. Struck by The Royal Mint from 22 carat gold in proof quality.

Limited minting of only 5,001. Complete with wooden presentation case.
